History

A series of concerts, recitals, and lectures, called the Glastonbury Festival was established in Glastonbury between 1914 and 1926 by a classical composer Rutland Boughton.

Since 1981, the festival has been organized by a local farmer, and site owner named Michael Eavis. This farmer, along with his wife Jean, ran the festival until she died in 1999. At present, this festival is co-organized by his daughter Emily Eavis.

In 2002, Festival Republic company took charge of managing the festival's logistics and security. However, the relationship between the company came to an end in 2012.

Some amazing facts about the Glastonbury festival

Glastonbury Festivals Ltd donates most of its profits to charities and pays for the Tithe Barn's purchase and restoration in Pilton.

In 2002, the festival Republic took on the duty of managing the supplying and security of the pageant through a four-hundredth stake within the festival management company. This relationship resulted in 2012, and Glastonbury pageant is currently freelance.

Most people who attend the Glastonbury festival build their own tents and camp. There are different tenting areas, every with its own atmosphere. Limekilns and Hitchin Hill Ground square are quieter tenting areas, whereas Pennard Hill Ground is a spirited, lively land site.

Cockmill hayfield is a family land site, and Wicket Ground introduced in 2011 is a second family-only land site. Land site accommodation is provided at the price of a customary entry price tag; however, festival-goers should bring their own tents.

Many myths have connected themselves to Glastonbury. In the twelfth century, the monks of Glastonbury Abbey "discovered" the body of the legendary fictional character – though cynics indicate that the abbey had been broken during a fireplace. Therefore the monks most likely faked the invention as the way to draw attention and thus increased revenue.

The Pyramid Stage, first created in 1981, was made from sheet metal and telegraph poles.

In 1978 the festival was not planned. Initially, there wasn't an idea to conduct a festival at Worthy Farm that year; however, once people began showing in droves, they placed along a makeshift stage power-driven by a caravan and went by with it anyway!

In 1994, the pyramid stage burned down. Ten days before the festival was due to occur, Glastonbury's central stage sadly burned down. Thankfully, they managed to seek out a replacement, and therefore, the festival went ahead.

Glastonbury uses thirty megawatts of electricity that equates very much like the town of the tub. Most of the ability comes from two hundred dotted generators around the site, and rest comes from the renewable supply of energy.

1997 was an unforgettable year. Both BBC and the Guardian sponsored the festival and took over the tv event. The site suffered severe rainfalls turning the complete site into the muddy ground, So that year's festival was called 'The Year Of The Mud.'
